Left to the community by Lady Cabrera in 1961 this area is one of environmental importance with ancient woodland and wooded wetland. We also have the benefit of the riverside walk used by many local residents – and their dogs! Lady Cabrera left a fund to maintain the amenity of the land and that is managed by the Cabrera Trust administered by Runnymede Borough Council. As is so often the case these days the costs of maintenance are outpacing the ability of the fund to generate the income needed. This means the original funding provided is being eaten away and then it raises less income. To try to break this vicious cycle our aim is to fundraise help support the fund and increase it rather than reduce it. We also raise funds for specific projects that otherwise would not be possible. Our current projects include funding the new bridge that has already been installed and raising funds to pay contractors to work on controlling the invasive skunk cabbage.
