Please help support the Cabrera Trust and the Riverside Walk.

Those of you who use the Riverside Walk around our local nature reserve will be aware of the new bridge that has been installed to replace the old wooden bridge (known as the cattle bridge) which had deteriorated quickly and catastrophically.  The replacement was installed at speed and thanks are due to the Runnymede Council teams for ensuring our footpath was not closed to the local community.

The Friends of Cabrera Trust and Woods exist to raise funds for supporting projects in the nature reserve.  An important financial aim is to ensure that the capital resources of the Trust Fund itself are not depleted and remain sufficient to generate sufficient interest to pay for on-going maintenance within the Woods – moving fallen trees for example.  If funds are raised to cover particular projects such as the replacement of the bridge then the Trust Funds are protected. It follows that The Friends would like to raise funding to cover the cost of the replacement bridge and are seeking your support.

We would be grateful to hear from anyone who would like to donate to this project or who knows someone or perhaps a local company who might be able to help. We would like to raise £7500 and have already received a donation of £500 to start the campaign.

The Friends have other schemes they would also like to support:

First there is a pressing need to control the invasive Skunk Cabbage that is driving out native species in the boggy part of the reserve.

Second is the provision of more benches so people have places they can sit to enjoy the environment of the woods.

Do contact admin@friendsofcabrera.co.uk if you feel able to help or simply visit the donations page on our website https://friendsofcabrera.co.uk .   We can only offer the acknowledgment of your donation on our website and on the bridge itself.  But hopefully you recognise the benefit of having this nature reserve in our community and will celebrate using the facility and the value it provides to our community in general.

There are other ways to support the Friends of Cabrera Trust and Woods.  The committee would welcome new members onto the committee and are particularly keen to recruit someone who can help with our website and social media presence.

A separate but associated project is the team of volunteers who work under the guidance of the Council Officers and who are organised by Pam Thomas who can be contacted by email: pam@ukhouse.com.  This group undertake tasks in the woods such as removing the invasive Himalayan Balsam and coppicing.  It is a sociable group and good exercise for those who join in!

Thank you for reading this and considering supporting our efforts.
